Verification Services for astm thermometers and hydrometers

VERIFICATION:   Confirmation by examination and provision of evidence that specified requirements have been met.     from ISO Guide 25, ‘definitions’

ISO-9000, QS-9000 and many other quality systems often require that ALL the thermometers and hydrometers used in everyday tasks be checked and verified periodically against calibrated, NIST Traceable instruments to be sure their indications are within prescribed accuracy limits (ASTM or other specifications).

Many companies have an NIST traceable calibrated thermometer, or a set of thermometers, often called ‘masters’, or ‘referee’ thermometers, and desire to perform the periodic verification of the everyday 'working' instruments internally.

Doing so may or may not be practical, depending on the equipment you have available, and the available time of skilled staff to perform (and document) the verifications.  Moreover, if very high or very low temperatures are required, it may be impractical or impossible to perform this testing yourself, as specialized (and expensive) equipment is necessary to attain these temperatures.

Another consideration is time - the time required to perform the testing and create and maintain the attendant paperwork can be a major drain on valuable production time.

ICL offers NIST Traceable verification of your routine thermometers and hydrometers as well as calibration of your master instruments. This service is very reasonable in cost, can be performed quickly (usually in two to three days), and we, not you, are responsible for the record keeping and attendant headaches.

Many, many laboratories have decided it is more cost effective to focus on their core business and let a competent, qualified contractor (such as ICL) perform the specialized testing of thermometers and hydrometers.

We will test your working instruments at the test points specified by ASTM E-1 (for thermometers) or E-100 (hydrometers) or those test points you specify, and furnish a Verification Report for each instrument. This report, shown below, will identify the instrument by physical description and serial number, and indicate the test points, permitted tolerance, all test information, NIST certified instruments used, and indicate that it is in compliance with ASTM accuracy requirements and is thus approved for usage.

A durable, laminated verification tag will be attached to the instrument indicating date verified and ‘next due’ date.

We will keep track of  the period of validity you specify to us for your instrument, and we will contact you in time for the next verification.
