Calibration Information
Calibrations are performed
utilizing ICL’s Thunder Scientific model 2500 humidity generator. The
NIST-developed two-pressure system of humidity generation on which this unit
operates is an intrinsic standard for humidity (see NCSL
International’s RISP-5 for more details) which relies upon the
NIST traceable calibration of its temperature and pressure sensors to
generate humidity values from 10% to 95%RH at temperatures from 0 to 70°C
with system uncertainties approaching +/- 0.50% RH (k=2).
Skilled, factory trained calibration personnel
subject the client’s instrument to a three (humidity) point test, typically
20, 50 & 80%RH at a specified temperature (normally 23C), with a minimum
equilibration time of two hours at each value, with the sensor(s) exposed to
a moving air stream of controlled humidity and temperature at a velocity of
20 liters per minute. The results of the testing (AS FOUND data) are
evaluated for compliance with required tolerances. If needed, adjustments
are performed to optimize the device’s indications and the testing is
repeated to obtain the AS LEFT data.
A multi-page calibration report is issued which
includes all ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 required information, including
procedure followed, AS FOUND readings, adjustments made, if any, AS LEFT
readings, an uncertainty statement, and all NIST traceability information.
Graphs and charts (if applicable for the device tested) and printout(s) of
test parameters during the test(s) are included as supporting documentation.
